The Pegleg Gives Back
There’s no doubt that the world is a smaller place than it once was. With the internet connecting the globe and world economies becoming more intertwined, the distance between WHS and formerly far-flung places is rapidly shrinking. We are no longer insulated from what happens on the other side of the world.
With that in mind, The Pegleg is launching a new initiative–“The Pegleg Gives Back.” Through this initiative, we hope to unite the WHS community behind a different charities to help make the world that we live in a better place.
Our first charity is Kiva.org. Kiva is the world’s first, and leading, micro finance site. Through Kiva, generous folks (like you!) make small loans to entrepreneurs around the world. The loans are made in increments of $25. Each $25 loan is pooled with other $25 loans from around the world to combine and meet the need of someone who needs a hand-up. Whether it is money to buy a new tractor so that a farmer in Peru can double his crop output to better provide for his family, or a shed so that a single mother in El Salvador can continue to sell her tortillas during the rainy season in order to send her kids to school, Kiva connects lenders like you with people who need a small hand in order to make a vast difference in their lives. The loans are repaid by the borrower and can then be loaned again by you or withdrawn and put back into your pocket. Kiva loans have a 98.9% repayment rate. Kiva has earned the highest rating from Charity Navigator (four stars).
Click on this link: HERE to get started. Your first loan is free! You are not required to pay anything and there is no catch. Through the generosity of Kiva’s donors, you’ll get to make a $25 loan at no cost to yourself. Kiva’s donors are allowing first time users to make a loan using the donor’s money in order to introduce new people to Kiva. You choose the borrower that you wish to help and make the loan. It is that simple. The loan gets repaid to the original donor. If you like Kiva, you are encouraged to make a loan using your own funds (which will be repaid to you) but you are not required to.
