That Wylie Band Advances to State Marching Contest
It’s been eight years since That Wylie Band advanced to the Texas State marching competition, but after placing 3rd overall at the Area C marching competition in Mesquite last weekend, over 220 members of That Wylie Band are heading back. Eligible members of the band will travel to San Antonio on Monday, November 4, to perform the next day in the Alamodome, in front of an audience of 60,000.The last time they were able to qualify, a single off-par score from an inexperienced judge stopped their chances. This year they have had more than 12 weeks of rehearsals, have spent many hours spent practicing before and after school, have had half-time performances at every football game, and have participated in marching competitions nearly every Saturday.
Band Director Mr. Dixon believes that this group is prepared and can do anything they set their minds to.
“it’s pretty cool when you get a group of people with varying ability levels, different ages and different grades accomplishing something so great,” Mr. Dixon said. “I’m more proud of this group than any I’ve ever had.”
UPDATE: That Wylie Band received 9th place in finals at the Texas State Marching competition out of 251 4A marching bands in the State of Texas
